The Autumn Statement - Our View
Labour Group Leader Steve Morphew responds to chancellors autumn statement
‘Another short term sticking plaster dressed up as a miracle cure. It fails to even cover the wounds the austerity cuts have inflicted let alone heal them. It also appears once again there’s a further big council tax hike masquerading as government largesse that’s going to hit the pockets of the just about coping next year.’
• Local councils will get £1.5 billion for social care next year this will be part funded by a 2% council tax precept. What this means for Norfolk - probably a 5% Council tax rise next year.
• Since 2010 £16 billion has been cut from local councils, £7.7 billion has been cut from Adult Social Care alone. What this means for Norfolk - more brutal cuts to essential services.
More details of how it will affect Norfolk will emerge in due course but it looks less bad rather than good and forgive our cynicism but anybody heard anything about a general election...?
