Cllr Mike Smith-Clare Talks Lockdown Life in Gt Yarmouth

Cllr Smith-Clare

These have certainly been an interesting few weeks with our household battling virus like symptoms while coping with the challenges of homeschooling five constantly hungry kids, two constantly hungry dogs and two mightily fed up cats!

But alongside these challenges so many of us are facing - we’ve also painted rainbows, baked, tidied, gardened, kept fit and clapped until our hands turned red.

In between the domestic chaos I’m still dealing with a regular flow of resident’s questions and issues, which fortunately can still be speedily resolved online. I’ve also learned how to zoom, FaceTime and hold regular virtual conferences with colleagues.

The bedroom has become the new boardroom, with the excitement of wearing pyjama trousers matched only by the sudden appearance of a Peppa Pig clutching toddler leaping precariously beside you.

Before our quarantine started I happily supported the local food bank and now it’s over I’ll continue distributing supplies for our Labour group and as a pharmacy distribution volunteer.

There’s still so much to face, although once we’re through this - I’m determined to make sure our country isn’t just fit for heroes, but supports those heroes who’ve made it fit!

Stay safe and take care,

Cllr Mike Smith-Clare
