My Week On Work Experience - 'I would really like to become a Political Assistant or Councillor for the Labour Party of course'

July 26, 2018

During this week (16th-20th July) I have had the amazing opportunity to do work experience with the Labour Party at Norfolk County. From Monday to Thursday I shadowed Labour's Political Assistant and was introduced to many different people, including Councillors, the other two Political Assistants, Member Liaison Officer and the Executive Director of Financial and Commercial Services. Everyone I met was friendly and ready to answer any questions i had about their jobs; of which there were a lot. I think that, following this week, I would really like to become a Political Assistant or Councillor for the Labour Party of course.

On Friday I worked with the Democratic Services Committee team and observed their jobs. It's really interesting to look at what happens behind the scenes in politics and find out about different essential roles that are played. Other opportunities that I got varied from observing the Police and Crime Commissioners business case to writing posts on social media to learning about the role of unions. This has been a brilliant opportunity and one that I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a worth while work experience placement!
